Right after picking up the car I hit the issue again where the car went into limp mode while accelerating on the freeway ramp. A few weeks later the car went into limp mode again while getting on the freeway, BMW of bellevue diagnosed this as a high pressure fuel sensor short, BMW of north America opened a puma case, but did not recommend replacing the dme yet. BMW of bellevue diagnosed this as a vacuum hose leak. A few weeks later the issue happening again during regular driving on the freeway. BMW of bellevue replaced air mass filter and oil filler cap. The car was taken to BMW of bellevue next week after initial diagnosis of a dme internal fault by a signature independent kirkland. The engine performance was degraded and I had to pull on the side of the road to restart the car.
Please see attached documentation for more information.ĭuring hard acceleration of the car while getting on the free way ramp, the car went into limp mode. Again, the radiator is a vital part of ensuring that the engine runs appropriately, and if there is evidence of consistent leaking with BMW vehicles with very few miles due to a manufacturing error, then this problem should be corrected. After some research, I learned that other BMW customers have complained about the radiators in Bmws from the years 2007-2013 (documents attached).
The radiator issue and inevitable issue with the engine can cause serious injury to other drivers on the road if the vehicle's engine seizes are stops in the middle of traffic.
This is a danger to the driver and to others on the road.
The coolant system is absolutely critical to keeping the engine running. With a defective radiator, the increased heat starts to wear on other engine components, and the resulting stress can shorten engine life dramatically. The normal operating temperature of the average car engine is around 190-210 degrees fahrenheit. It's responsible for essential heat exchange functions in your car's cooling system. The radiator is one of the engine's unsung heroes. 00) because it was not covered by the limited warranty under power train coverage. After contacting the warranty company (assure) the warranty company informed the service manager that they would not cover the cost of a new radiator ($1,300. Flow BMW diagnosed a leak in the radiator. I called the flow BMW dealership for service and took my vehicle in for service on 10/19/18. In mid-October 2018, my vehicle began showing the low coolant level light and low oil level light. I bought my 2009 BMW X5 vehicle in June 2018, with approximately 61,630 miles and a limited warranty with power train coverage, which included engine, transmission, front wheel drive, and rear wheel drive. To have the engine seized like this is the middle of traffic endangered me and my passengers and totally unconscionable. BMW is using steel and metal that have significant strength problems as documented by all the complaints I have read above. To have a major engine fail at 84k speaks volumes to the lack of integrity for the engine. I have owned Bmws since 1992 and the vehicles lasted passed 175k miles. I have spend over $15,000 to get this vehicle repaired and Bmwusa should reimburse me because of it's known history. For the price you paid for the "ultimate driving machine", Bmwusa needs to step up and be honest above the problems that have plagued their engines and their cooling system. No leak were detected for either coolant or oil yet the engine seized simply for the fact, the metal used internally is inferior. He stated he has never see a meltdown of parts which welded together from the extreme heat of the engine. After Bmwusa said they would do nothing to resolve their latent defect in the engine obviously metal parts which we came to the conclusion were inferior, I had the engine taken out by a certified trained a mechanic. The BMW dealership in bay shore NY had the vehicle for three weeks and really didn't open the engine up to find the cause. The engine only had 84k miles and then without warning, no oil leaks, no hot engine red lights, nothing at all to speak of in the middle of travel, the engine completely shut off and I have to do everything to get to the shoulder of the road. BMW has had numerous claims of engine failures in the X5 but they will not do anything to repair the vehicle. Engine failed because the crankshaft got so hot it fused the crankshaft and the bearings causing the complete failure and replacement of the engine.
